Book 1: Feeding Your Farm and Garden Flock
Paul Healy has been keeping family based poultry flocks and breeding heirloom poultry as well as growing all of his familys' organic food in south eastern Australia for more than forty years.
Credited with having saved the last surviving line of original heirloom Partridge Dutch Barnevelders, Paul has spent his life preserving this rare and beautiful breed of open forage farm and garden fowl. His teaching and writing have helped revive the lost art of breeding true dual purpose, farm and forage flocks kept in the great, nineteenth century, European cottager tradition.
One of the pioneers of the Urban Farm and Sustainability movement in Tasmania, and the ever popular voice of “Chook Talkback” on ABC local radio, Paul's weekly “Good Earth” column in the Mercury Newspaper, ran for more than twenty-two years, but is now only available, online, at this website.
Now, at last, Paul has put together this “Sustainable Poultry Keeping in Australia” Series to meet the needs of smallholders, farmers, and backyard poultry keepers. His sensible and sustainable, practical approach to keeping poultry in an urban garden, or on a farm or smallholding, is now available to the wider Australian audience.
